In an era when science fiction magazines are disappearing faster than dinosaurs after the KT asteroid hit, we’re dedicated to giving science fiction writers an opportunity to place their work before the world.
We believe the reason science fiction magazines are disappearing is complex, but it’s not because there are fewer people interested in good science fiction. Among the main reasons they’re disappearing is the high cost of paper and lack of interested advertisers. To avoid going the way of T. Rex, we’re entirely digital and non-profit.
Another reason science fiction magazines are disappearing, though, is too many have gotten away from good storytelling. We like a great experimental story as well as the next guy, but they should be the exception rather than the standard in storytelling (That’s what makes them “experimental,” see?). In addition, too many magazines that publish standard stories give readers drab tales full of exposition, passive verbs, and dull dialogue. Yech. We want each writer to think of him/herself as a spaceman/woman sitting at a bar or a table full of strangers, and you want to bedazzle them with a fantastical tale of what you’ve experienced or heard on your last trip to some exoworld. That spaceman/woman tells the tale for the glory and so those listening will think about that story for the rest of their lives. We’d rather not publish a story that bores the audience.
We grew up reading great science fiction in magazines, anthologies and novels. We’re dedicated to saving our genre from the garbage we see on television, in the movies, and via AI. We’re dedicated to making our genre a major force again in inspiring our youth to enter science, in reshaping our society so that everyone enjoys dignity and justice, and in creating visions of our future that encourage us to move to the stars rather than to the next violent video game or pointless streamed program.
Hopefully, we can publish (i.e. post) a story every couple of days. Of course, that depends on the quality of the stories we receive and the amount of time needed to produce our digital magazine.
So, take a seat, order a drink or a meal, and enjoy our stories!
